Walking Shoes for Women
If you are like most women, you engage in a variety of activities throughout the day. Whether you walk for exercise, work, or just need a comfortable shoe to run around in, chances are you need a good walking shoe for women in your wardrobe. There are so many choices when buying walking shoes for women; it’s hard to know which ne best suits your particular needs.
Every major athletic shoe brand carries a women’s line of walking shoes. We all have our favorites. I can remember when nothing but Reeboks would do. Everyone wore them and I wanted them too. One thing to keep in mind is that women have very different feet from men. A woman’s foot is typically narrow in the heel area and wider in the forefoot. Ryka is a company that does not use men’s shoe lasts for women’s shoes. Most other companies use a smaller last that is shaped like a man’s foot. I have tried Ryka walking shoes and they do fit very well. Of course I love Birkenstocks too. While they are not the typical walking shoe, you cannot beat them for comfort. The cork foot bed shapes to your foot and creates a custom fit. Walking them is like being barefoot for me.
There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing walking shoes. They are very different from running shoes or even cross trainers. A walking shoe needs to be lightweight and flexible with a well padded heel. Your heel strikes the ground first when you are walking. Wear the socks you plan to use when you shop for shoes and try to shop late in the day when your feet are at their largest. Don’t sacrifice comfort for style. If they feel tight in the store, they will always feel tight. They should not need to be broken in. They’ll be just as cute in a larger size and you will not get blisters. Fit varies from one manufacturer to another, so try a few different brands to find the perfect one for you.
It’s hard to write about walking shoes without mentioning the new and very popular rocker sole walking shoes. Skechers, New Balance, and many other manufacturers are making them. They are comfortable and get this, they promise to firm your butt and legs. What woman does not want a firmer bottom without endless hours at the gym? They do force your muscles to work harder and produce the desired results over time, but if you have tight heel cords or Achilles tendon issues you might want to pass these by or at least be sure to do a lot of stretching before you walk in them. They are a little pricey, but they have research behind the claims unlike the bargain basement versions.
Ok ladies, you have the information you need to pick out some fabulous walking shoes for women. Once you have found a comfortable pair, you have no excuse not to get out there and walk.
